What this is

The original game, built for the browser, with room for new experiences.

01 / Engine

The original game

SuperTuxKart's C++ engine, physics and game data built with Emscripten: the same karts, tracks and AI as the desktop game. Nothing is reimplemented in JavaScript.

02 / Browser

Made for the browser

WebGL 2 rendering with the game's forward renderer; the browser drives every frame.

Your players, settings and progress stay in the browser.

03 / Data

Load once. Race again.

The game data is downloaded once and kept in IndexedDB, so a second visit starts without downloading it again.

Requirements

Desktop, a compatible browser and your next race.

  • A desktop browser with WebGL 2 and WebAssembly threads; Chrome or Edge are the reference browsers.
  • Keyboard or gamepad: arrow keys drive, Space fires, N uses nitro, V skids and Escape pauses.
  • Hardware acceleration enabled in the browser; without it the game runs very slowly.

How to play online

Rooms on this site's server, reached from the game's own Local networking menu.

  1. Press Play in the browser and start SuperTuxKart.
  2. Choose your player. A profile without “Online” is enough; rename it so others recognise you. You can also log in with your SuperTuxKart account.
  3. Open Online › Local networking. The list shows this site's server and the rooms other players created; pick one to join its lobby.
  4. To host, choose Create server: name, game mode, difficulty, players and an optional password. You enter as the host, with the crown, and start the race when everyone is ready.
  5. Share this page with your friends: they follow the same steps and find your room in the list.
